Provides technical support services to the surgical team.
Assists in the peri-operative care in a technical support staff function; communicates with surgeons, anesthesiologists and surgical services staff, interdepartmental communication, Sterile Processing, Distribution, Lab, Blood Bank, Pharmacy, and Housekeeping.

Transporting Patients Transports patients safely between all patient care areas, using appropriate body mechanics.
Uses standard precautions as they may affect self and others in the hospital.
Demonstrates respect for patient privacy during transport and times of patient interaction.
Makes sure patient is comfortable, warm and safe.
Prepares the cart/bed for patients' post-op transfer.
Assess surgery schedule to determine what patients require a bed post operatively and sees that the hospital bed is available prior to the end of the surgical procedure.
This planning must be completed independently or with direction from APR, PACU or Center Core.
Carries pager or phone and answers any and all requests in a timely manner.
Calls Center Core if it is taking longer than 15 minutes to get patients or patient is in isolation and OR is not aware.
Assists families to designated locations.
Equipment and Supplies Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all sterilization and decontamination equipment including but not limited to autoclaves, Steris and washer sterilizer.
This includes testing and monitoring biologicals and air tests on sterilizers.
Decontaminates special instrumentation following CPD decontamination policy and using appropriate PPE.
Sets up all special equipment as needed such as spica table, fracture table, jackson table etc.
as required for procedures.
Follows correct procedure to assure the return of instrumentation and supplies to CPD without loss.
Orders stock inventory supplies using established par levels for cost control and assumes responsibility for restocking when supplies arrive.
Keeps all transport carts clean and sanitized.
Reports damaged equipment to engineering such as bad hydraulics, wheels, squeaks, etc.
Assisting Operating Room Staff Moves and positions patients within the OR suite under the direction of the circulating RN.
Holds patients limbs for surgical preps in the OR under the direction of the circulating RN.
Assists with direct patient care under the direction of an operating room RN.
Displays a thorough understanding of EGH isolation policy and procedures.
Serves as a resource to staff when determining PPE requirements and isolation procedures when transporting patients and cleaning operating rooms.
Understands responsibilities in a code situation and able to respond accordingly.
Makes lab runs, picks up or returns blood products as directed.
Documents appropriate Blood Bank requirements.
Transports specimens to lab in a timely manner.
Assists in orientation of new personnel as requested.
Completes annual skills verification as determined by clinical needs and as documented by OR educator.
Call will be assigned on Holidays from 7 A.
M.
to 7 P.
M.
and to cover department needs as needed.
Housekeeping Duties Assists with OR turnovers by:
removing trash and dirty linens; clean and make OR table, mop floor, change suction canisters and breathing circuits.
Empties trash receptacles in department as needed.
Performs terminal cleaning of both OR suites and carts on a regular basis.
Keeps coffee bar clean and prepares coffee as needed.
Checks cleaning supplies daily in order to maintain an adequate supply of inventory to avoid depletion of supplies.
Responsible for weekly cleaning of cool suits and lead aprons.
Exchanges clean linen carts daily and replenish linen as needed.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
Complies with established organization and department policies.
Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Must be a minimum of 17 years of age.
Must maintain current CPR certification.
No previous experience is required.
On the job training is offered.
Nurse's Aide experience is helpful.
Previous surgery experience is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills Able to use and maintain all types of transport carts and equipment.
Good communication skills CPR certification Working Conditions Because of our responsibility to provide the highest level of medical care, patient attention, and staff support, employees must be available to work mandatory overtime as a condition of their employment.
As such, mandatory overtime is considered an essential job function.
Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
Physical Demands Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.
e.
to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.
) to perform the essential functions of the position.

Full-time, Day, M-F 0650-1520.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
