JOB SUMMARY
Reports to the Practice Manager and works under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor and Office Supervisor. Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs various clerical and patient care duties. Responsibilities include assisting the physician in support of medical care, answering the telephone, admitting and discharging patients, and performing data entry.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through either (1) successful completion of a Certification Exam OR (2) through successful completion of an approved two year Medical Assistant Program and successful completion of a Certification Exam. If not certified, must obtain certification within 60 days of hire date. Previous medical office experience and the ability to speak and write Spanish are desired.

Assistingphysician and/or nurse with minor emergency or surgical procedures.
Performingroutine laboratory and EKG tests as ordered and collecting specimens for thelab.
Administeringand recording medication and injections as ordered.

Checkingand maintaining supply of stock to exam rooms.
Cleaningand sterilizing instruments and equipment.
Schedulingoffice or hospital procedures.
Preparingprocedure orders and accompanying data to be sent to the hospital forinpatient/outpatient studies.
Arrangingfor hospital admissions and providing all necessary information to the nursingstaff at the hospital.
Triagingpatient calls to determine urgency and direct patient care.
Managingand adjusting medication dosage under the direction of a physician andfollowing up on patient compliance.
Managingpatient refills and ensuring that medications are dosed correctly and patientis taking them according to provider instructions.
Preloadingpatient information into the EMR- including diagnostic testing, healthmaintenance, and past surgical history.
Maintainingphysician calendar in outlook and coordinating that with the schedule in ProPM.
